A Quck Ziggy Update…

As of today, Ziggy is doing much better and seems to be on the mend! Our cat-vet Dr. Bill was able to make it first thing on Monday to give a good exam to, and assistance for, poor Zig.

We had to be dug out with a backhoe/skip loader on Saturday and Sunday with one of the big things being to make room for our vehicles at our parking area. So, there was room for Bill’s mobile hospital for Ziggy’s appointment on Monday.

Ziggy not only had something burst in his ear/sinus area, but somewhere had some internal bleeding. Bill suspected either bleeding from the sinus area or a possible ulcer in the stomach. Ziggy’s bloodwork did show some anemia.  Now, with supportive meds, we’re making slow progress to a recovery. At least we’re very hopeful at this point. Zig’s much more comfortable and each day sees some advance.

I have to admit that dealing with this was scary. I hate to see any animal in pain. I knew poor Zig wasn’t feeling well, but during the snows all that could be done was supportive care like subcutaneous fluids, warmth, small meals of soft foods…even a vaporizer going to make his breathing a bit easier in this uber-dry air we have here.

And thank you all for your support, good thoughts and purrayers for Mr. Zig. You not only supported him, but me as well.

Video: WALKING
Originally uploaded by kelly42

We interrupt this “Sheepy Business” to bring you very exciting news from New Zealand…

Yesterday, our granddaughter, Gwen, walked! By herself! She will be turning one year old next week. She is every bit her mother’s daughter (and father’s, too) being as precocious as Kelly was. Little do K & R know, but their world is going to get a lot busier as well as those eyes in the back of the head need to be up and running now.

We grandparents are simply over the moon at this new development! Go Gwen!

Cool Thoughts

My friend, Tina, had a great idea to post a picture of something cool. They are having record heat in the Pacific NW right now. We, too, are having warm temperatures with increased humidity due to it still being “Monsoon Season”. The past few days have seen tremendous storms moving through. My sheep are getting used to the Drill of having me round them up to put in areas where they have proper cover if they want. Our pasture has no mature trees and if Skittles doesn’t stop bashing the barriers to the trees we are trying to grow in the pasture, we still won’t have any shade.
So, I’m leaving you with the thoughts of chilled mallards standing in cold water with snow about.

And I keep in mind that the Earth will turn and…eventually…those of us who love cool weather will become more active again. I wish, I wish, I wish….

It is with great parental proudness that I announce that my Beautiful, Talented, Smart, Hard-Working, (oh, I could go on and on) daughter, Kelly, JUST PASSED THE DEFENSE OF HER DOCTORAL THESIS!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!
We just got the call from Herself letting us know that she passed her oral defense and accomplishing something very rare – she received a “Pass Without Corrections” which is a very rare accomplishment! Can you tell we’re proud? I am actually typing this upside-down as I am on the ceiling I’m so delighted for her. I know just how hard she’s worked to get this doctorate. In a couple of weeks, when the thesis is printed and bound (published) she can be called “Dr.” at that point. But I’m going to call her Dr. starting right now.
I can hardly think of what to write in this blog entry ’cause I’m so excited for my Darling Daughter. I don’t know whether to cry or shout it out! Right now I’m doing both! WA-HOO!!!!!

Congratulations, Dr. Atkinson! I only wish I were there to give you the biggest hug a mother could give her daughter. You deserve this. Your Dad and I know just how hard you’ve worked for this! And we also know how glad the other Dr. Atkinson is to have his wife back again instead of writing all the time!

I love you, Kelly! YOU GO, GIRL! The Sky is the limit! And the World is yours!

NOTE: Kelly’s official “title” is she’s a “Protein Biochemist”. Her Thesis is titled: Proteomic Biomarker Discovery for Preeclampsia.

If you’d like to visit her blog, click on the link at the side.

No News…

Miss Lacey is playing games today! She did not eat much this morning and has been “nesting” in her jug, coming in from outside on her own. She’s restless and trying to dig to China. So far, there have been no other progressive signs of impending birth – except I know we’re headed that direction. (I won’t go into graphic detail here at this point.)

What I really think is that she loves toying with me….come on Lacey! Get with it!

Thar She Blows!

We’re off and running! Amanda presented us with two strapping ram lambs this morning! Boys (darn it) and Mom are doing well. Apparently that discussion I had with Skittles did not sink in. That’ll teach me to have a serious conversation with a ram right before being turned in with the ewes.

Now we’ll keep closer eyes on everyone else. I really expected Amanda to have tripoets this year. Who can tell? I have to make a trip to the feed store so I’ll leave my DH to watch the monitor. He just finished putting a new connection in as we’ve lost the camera in the other side of the barn. At least we have a camera where it’s critical.

As for me…I think a cup of hot tea is in order. 🙂

How true! (re: the quote)

When I Grow Up…

My friend, Tina, put this on her blog. The “Inquisitiveness” might be a tad on the low side for me as I love trying to figure out anything and everything, which tends to make my DH shake his head at times. (It may have driven my family crazy, but it sure came in handy doing investigations.) Note that no where does it mention “Shepherd” in this list. I took it twice just to be sure…but this is what it came up for me:
